At APEX TECH 2026 in Los Angeles, Laura Rösges, CEO at AirFi, spoke on the panel “Inflight Touchpoints in the Digital Ecosystem: Advancing Integration and Intelligence,” where themes of a personalized, cloud-driven future for IFEC emerged. There is momentum toward hyper-personalized, data-driven IFEC experiences that generate higher ancillary revenue for airlines. Panelists noted that, at present, personalization efforts are constrained by AI processing limits and operational realities, requiring collaboration among providers to deliver practical implementation strategies.

Quvia creates context with intelligent data movement
Reliable inflight connectivity may now be an expectation among passengers, but Benny Retnamony, Founder & CEO of Quvia, says the real differentiator for airlines will be how carriers use data and intelligence to shape the digital experience through open, flexible platforms. According to Retnamony, in aviation, the Edge refers to the aircraft, positioning it as an intelligent platform that decides what data to prioritize, process locally and sync with the cloud. As such, the Edge and the cloud must work together to move data intelligently.

Thai Airways is ditching first class
Thai Airways is the latest airline to axe first class in favour of a vastly upgraded business class experience, with enhanced ‘business plus' suites taking pride of place at Row 1. Despite a long history of indulgent first class flying, which arguably peaked on the iconic Boeing 747 (the A380 was less impressive), CEO Chai Eamsiri has confirmed the Star Alliance member is removing first class from its fleet. “Major international airlines have already abolished first class and left business class as the top tier,” he said.

Air Canada Unveils 2 Surprising New Long-Haul Airbus A321XLR Routes For 2026
You might know by now that Air Canada plans to fly to the Canary Islands. It has added not one but two brand-new routes, both of which will use the Airbus A321XLR. You might have thought these links would be better suited to the leisure carrier Air Transat. The two upcoming routes are highly intriguing. That's particularly the case because of United Airlines' Newark-Tenerife South service, which ended in May 2025. Despite the inevitable financial incentives and perhaps other risk-sharing agreements, the route clearly struggled. The operating period changed quite a lot as it tried to find what worked.

Onboard wellness: the conversation economy class has been waiting for
We have achieved something genuinely remarkable in aviation. We have placed human beings inside a metal tube, cruising at altitude above oceans and continents, and made it for many entirely unremarkable. The miracle of flight has been so thoroughly normalised that we now debate the thread count of Business Class bedding while politely ignoring a rather more fundamental question. What are we doing about the wellbeing of the passenger sitting in 46E? Onboard wellness has become a credible, well-funded conversation in premium cabins.
