Hughes develops dual-band ESA for multi-network inflight connectivity
|
|
Hughes Network Systems has developed an antenna technology system (AATS) that combines two electronically steerable antennas (ESAs) in a single installation, to enable simultaneous connectivity across Ku- and Ka-band satellite networks for both widebody and narrowbody aircraft. The system pairs Hughes’ HL1520 Ku-band ESA with a new Ka-band ESA, and is designed to operate across all Ku-band and Ka-band non-geostationary orbit (NGSO) networks. According to Hughes, additional network compatibility can be added through a modem card or software-defined waveform without requiring hardware modification to the aircraft installation.
